3. Vocês já tem onde ficar lá?

Sim, nós já alugamos um apartamento de 1 quarto (com a ajuda da querida amiga Maura) em uma região chamada de Yaletown que fica no centro de Vancouver. Eis alguns fatos sobre a região:

- É uma antiga região industrial que se tornou um dos bairros mais badalados da cidade, tanto que é chamada por alguns de a pequena SOHO de Vancouver (sim lá também tem uma!).

- Moradores da região são conhecidos por adorarem academia, yoga, os restaurantes gourmets, a vida noturna e os seus cachorrinhos.

- A grande maioria dos apartamentos estão em prédios altos e modernos que, em sua maioria, contam com academia, sauna, piscina e cozinha equipada inclusive com lava-roupas e secadora.

- A sua população é formada por cerca de 12.ooo pessoas com idade média de 37 anos.

3. Do you already have a place to stay there?

Yes, we have rented a one bedroom apartment (thanks to our dear friend Maura) in an area called Yaletown which is located in the Downtown area of Vancouver. Here are some facts about the neighbourhood:

- It's a previously industrial area which has become one of the hottest neighbourhoods in the city and it is even called "little SOHO" by some.

- Locals are known for loving gyms, yoga, its gourmet restaurants, its nightlife and their dogs.

- The majority of its apartments are located in high-rise and modern buildings with amenities such as fitness centres, saunas, pools and a fully equipped kitchen including in-suite washer and drier.

- Its population is cosntituted of around 12,000 people averagely aged 37.

2. Vocês vão pro Canadá, mas lá não é frio pra diabo???

Sim, é frio meeeesmo. Toronto chega a fazer -25C no inverno mas também pode fazer 40C no verão...

Mas se vocês leram o post anterior vocês já sabem que não é pra lá que vamos.

Vancouver é na verdade considerada uma das cidades de clima mais ameno no Canadá. Isso significa que as temperaturas não são extremas assim no inverno e nem no verão. Veja o gráfico que compara as temperaturas médias de Curitiba e Vancouver mês a mês:

O que acontece é que em Vancouver chove bastante, tanto que a cidade é apelidada por alguns de "Raincouver". Porém, pra quem mora em Curitiba... Veja o gráfico comparando a média de precipitação das duas cidades:

A maior diferença é que em Curitiba chove muito no verão e em Vancouver no inverno... O que vocês acham melhor? Eu como adoro chuva, fico feliz nas duas cidades!

2. You are going to Canada, but isn't it freaking cold there???

Yes, it reeeeaaally is cold. Toronto sometimes reaches -25C in the winter but it might also reach 40C in the summer...

But if you have read the previous post you already know that is not where we're going.

Vancouver is considered to be one of the cities with the mildest temperatures in Canada. This means that the temperatures are not that extreme neither in the summer nor winter. Look at the first picture above comparing the average temperatures in Curitiba and Vancouver month to month.

What happens is that in Vancouver it rains a lot, so much that the city is sometimes called "Raincouver". However, for someone who lives in Curitiba... Look at the second picture above which compares the average precipitation in both cities.

The biggest difference is that in Curitiba the most rainy season is the summer whereas in vancouver it is the winter... What do you think is better? Since I love rain, I am happy in both places!

(Iniciando contagem regressiva)

Oi pessoal!

Para dar início a nossa contagem regressiva (faltam 27 dias) vou iniciar uma série de postagens para esclarecer as dúvidas mais comuns das pessoas que descobrem que estamos indo morar no Canadá. E a primeira de todas é essa:

1. Pra que cidade vocês vão mesmo?

Nós vamos para Vancouver, que fica na costa Oeste do País (beeeem longe de NY).

Eis alguns fatos interessantes sobre a cidade:

- Fica na província da Colúmbia Britânica (lá eles não tem estados e sim províncias)

- É uma cidade litorânea

- Possui uma população de cerca de 600.000 habitantes, contando sua região metropolitana esse número chega à 2.ooo.ooo.

- Fica quase na divisa com os EUA e está à cerca de 200km de Seattle

To mark the beginning of our countdown (27 days to go) I will start a series of posts to answer the most common questions people ask when they find out we are moving to Canada. And here is the first one:

1. Which city have you guys chosen again?

We are going to Vancouver, which is on the West Coast (a looooong way from NYC).

Here are some interesting facts about the city:

- It is located in the Province of British Columbia (the country is divided in provinces and not states).

- It is a coastal city.

- It has a population of nearly 600,000. If you count its metropolitan area this number goes up to 2,000,000

- It is very near the USA border and only 200km away from Seattle
